This book is about a young boy named Billy who heard gun shots in the night from hunters and always wanted to be a hunter. But the problem was that he didn't have andy hunting dogs. He begged his parents for two Redbone Coonhounds but his family could not afford them. Then one day he sees an advertisement in a magazine for Redbone Coonhounds, twenty-five dollars each in Kentucky. So he decides to earn the money by doing all sorts of jobs for two years. His grandmother writes the kennel the dogs are being held at and she descovers that the dogs have dropped five dollars and she sends for two of them, but the mail buggy does not deliver packages so the dogs are sent to Tahlequah, Oklahoma where Billy travels on foot to get his two pups. Billy returns home and finally gets his chance to go hunting and he and his dogs become some of the greatest hunters and their fame spread throughout the Ozark Mountains. Then one day Billy's dogs tree a mountain lion and the trouble begins but you'll have to find out what happens next.
